Hooray for the Silent Generation. For the past 25 years we have helped this generation with their IT needs. From helping a 95 year old complete a book to installing Alexa to control TV and Music to smart watches to ensure they are well.
Many of them have given up their homes and condos to live in senior/ assisted living. In these facilities, TV, Internet and other amenities are shared. Since sharing is the opposite of security, many of these facilities have implemented wireless isolation technologies.
These solutions allow all the users of the Wireless system to see/ get access to the internet but not access one another’s devices. If this is implemented in your facility, then your printer has access to the internet and your phone or laptop has access to the internet but communication between you phone and printer is disabled.
Not only does this affect your printing, it affects if you get a new cell phone and are trying to do a device to device transfer. You will have to backup to the cloud and then download from the cloud.
The solution? Live with it, get a Bluetooth or direct print wifi printer, get your own router or get your own 5G internet gateway.
- A $10 – $15 cable from Amazon, Walmart, Target or Office Depot will make you printing faster that ever. Alternatively, some printers have an email address. If you send your document to that email address it will print. (Not advisable for secure docs)
