It is early Friday 6th October and we get a ton of frantic customers calling about the DirecTV warning message on some of their channels. No Tennis, No football, No debate. What happened? This link will explain better than what we can. https://youtu.be/RVJ_gWtxNDQ?si=_81yx09EKzgGN3iL
Over the last few years many of our clients have called us to help them ‘Cut the Cord’. Sadly, it has mainly impacted our senior clients at a disproportionately higher level. The first thing we hear is, “Why is my cable bill $300?” The next question is, “What is Streaming?”. We have does this so much that we have prepared a document to help steward the process and ultimate decision.
This decision ultimately boils down to what the customer wants to consume vs. their tolerance for change. Here are some of the options:
- Rabbit ears. These can be those ones that look like mouse pads to spaceships. For about $100-$120 you can get a fancy one that turns and can service a whole household of TVs with local channels. In Buckhead, we used a paperclip and got over 50 local Channels.
- DirecTV and Dish have been around a long time. If anything their customers are very loyal. Businesses like the exclusive sports content that DirecTV provides and I see a lot of seniors that love Dish’s Prices
- Traditional cable like, Cox, Spectrum and to some extent UversTV seem to be maintaining their internet customers but seems to be loosing TV customers to the streaming platforms below. It is interesting that many of the cable boxes are also smart and can stream the emerging platforms, often at a reduced rate.
- Hulu Live, YouTube TV, Sling, Xfinity Stream, and Whatever ATT streaming is calling themselves this week. These are the live streaming options that people who still want live TV but don’t want to pay full price are trying out.
- Lastly, the little known secret that is mentioned in hushed tones known as IPTV. It is in the market and can even be purchased on Amazon and AliExpress. I reminds me of Kodi and Exodus of a few years ago. The users that I have encountered, don’t know how it works. Just just know that it works, love the selection and LOVE the price.
All in all of all these options, the current winner among our clients is YouTube TV.
